Fanny Rateau from ECOS – Environmental Coalition on Standards presents STAR-ProBio, a Horizon 2020 project that aimed to support the European Commission in boosting market uptake for bio-based products. The project took place between 2017 and 2020.
Specifically, STAR-ProBio developed a toolbox to assess the sustainability of bio-based products, focusing on the assessment of environmental and circular performance. It also mapped and analysed regulations and standards, to support the Commission in developing a common EU-wide regulatory framework for bio-based products.
Overall, STAR-ProBio sought to improve the existing legal framework for sustainability-related assessment of bio-based products, and increase consumer acceptance by identifying critical problems in value chains regarding sustainability.
